Out of Your Chairs! was developed in ESL classrooms. The authors saw the need to supplement the traditional desk, pen and paper language lessons with active, physical and communicative activities. Students can only sit for a certain period of time before their capacity to learn diminishes. Active ESL games present a structured, enjoyable way to continue learning a new language. Some students learn languages with their whole body and Out of Your Chairs! provides a variety of ways of experiencing English kinesthetically. During the games students communicate with each other and the teacher. Students come to life! Shy students forget about being self-conscious as they become caught up in the game. Hard-to-motivate students are suddenly working, driven by the desire to win.
The games index lets you see at a glance the type of game, level, preparation time and playing time etc. The games are coded by level, beginner to advanced. Each game comes with straightforward instructions and has many reproducible templates and card sets. The games have an instant appeal but the more they are played the better they work.
